I have lived all my life in Wigan.  I attended local schools and I studied Photographic Technology at the former Manchester Polytechnic.

I had already begun my Photographic career in that from the age of 15 I had published photographs of schoolboy and amateur rugby in the local press.

For a year I worked at Wilding’s Photographic and began to work for the local press on photo sales.

I also worked freelance for the Rugby Leaguer newspaper.

I then went full-time with the local papers and recently took voluntary redundancy after 20 years’ service.

In that time I took pictures of people and places of every description, including a strong element of local sport. Examples of my pictures of outstanding moments of Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic can be seen in the SPORT section. My activities extended to aerial photography of Wigan and assignments in Bosnia, where I photographed Wigan lads in the forces keeping the peace after the war there, and Italy for a travel feature.

For a number of years I found time for the occasional freelance assignment. My private business and general work are therefore not new, but since redundancy I have expanded the private work into a full-time occupation. I remain available for newspaper work on a freelance basis.

I have experience of school photography, weddings and First Holy Communions. I am the photographer to the Wigan Little Theatre and number local dancing schools among my clients.

An increasing element in my business is events photography such as fund-raising dinners, at which I can offer high quality on-site printing, and awards ceremonies.

I have had commercial and public relations engagements with Wigan Council, the Highways Agency, the National Lottery and public relations agencies. On occasion, my PR photos have appeared in the national press. In the past I supplied pictures which featured in the TV advertising campaign of a well-known sports equipment firm.

Notwithstanding my Wigan background, I am available for work further afield, being within easy reach of Manchester, Liverpool, etc.

I am married to Anne, a primary school teacher, and we have four daughters, all of whom attend Wigan schools.

I have given illustrated talks on press photography and caption-writing to schoolchildren.

I am a school governor and possess the necessary DBS (previously CRB) Certificate.

I am noted for my good humour and friendly nature and have always got on extremely well with colleagues, clients and public - from schoolchildren to sports stars and from priests to politicians.

The pictures of News and Sport appearing on this website are examples of my work in all forms of news and professional and amateur sport locally.  For the majority I am indebted to the kind permission of my former employers, Johnston Press, publishers of the Wigan Observer, Wigan Evening Post etc., to reproduce them here.
